How to Set Up Evolution to Gmail

First, Gmail POP must be active. See gmail help. then, start Evolution.

If is the first time that you start evolution, you will see this:

If not, you can configure evolution in Menu Edit -> Preferencies -> Accounts -> Edit Button. Press Forward.

[edit] Identity

  • Full Name: Enter a name for its configuration.
  • User Name: Enter the username of your gmail.

Optional information can be ignored. Press Forward.

[edit] Receiving Mail

  • Server Type: Choose "POP"
  • Server: Enter Gmail POP server. pop.gmail.com
  • User Name: Enter the username of your gmail.
  • Security: Choose SSL Encryption.
  • Authentication type: Choose Password.
  • Remember Passsword: Evolution can remember your password. If don't tick this option, evolution will ask for your password everytime that checks your mailbox.
  • Press Forward.

[edit] Comfort

  • Configure Options as your convenience.

[edit] Configure Sending

  • Server Type: choose smtp
  • Server: Enter smtp.gmail.com
  • Tick "Server Requires Authentication"
  • Use Secure Connection: Choose SSL Encryption
  • Authentication: Choose Plain.
  • User Name: enter your Gmail user name.

You can tick "Remeber password" if you want that Evolution don't ask you for a password every time that sends emails.

Press Forward, it is all.
